Vision, Art and Faith meet See-King
In different seasons of our lives we seek different things, from inspiration, to friendships, to joy and ultimately purpose. Abroad I sought to discover the world, its beauty, its artistry and it’s people which are all manifestations of God’s love, grace and abundance. I saw it in Ireland, Hong Kong, India, Italy, and all the other countries I stumbled upon. This perfectly, imperfect creation of cultures with its multitude of traditions, languages, cuisines and people, created in a variety of skin tones, hair textures, shapes and sizes. But despite all of it’s differences, there’s an opportunity to seek beauty and love at the core of each creation.
So as I continue to connect with friends, old and new, and simply share my journey with others, people will often ask me: “Well, what was your favorite country?” But what I actually hear is: “In which country did you feel God’s presence, see his beauty and feel his love the most?” Where in the midst of my seeking, could I “SEE” the “KING”.
In Belgium I had to face more fears than any other country. There were fears in language, relationships, time and opportunity, and I took these fears as challenges. Each challenge created an opportunity to learn more about my insecurities, my passions, and my social circles, to learn a thing or two about fear and how it takes hold of our lives and manifests itself in different ways. In the Netherlands I saw previous connections and pieces of my life manifest into entirely new and life changing relationships through forming a community of friends, becoming a regular at a local bar/restaurant and connecting to dance studios and professionals in the city. Not to mention that I always found myself back in these countries on multiple occasions throughout my 6 month stint. All my seeking elsewhere brought me back to these countries; continuously checking in, challenging me and re-uping on the energy and potential that kept me pushing through those 6 months.
And after 6-months my seeking has brought me back to my home country with a new perspective on challenges and fear, and how and where to find God no matter where I am in the world. I consistently seek Him in all things notably my artistry, vision and way of life. I see Him in my close friend in Maryland who has supported my journey in so many amazing ways, in my newly developed and blossoming artistic voice or in every unexpected moment or event in my daily life. When in doubt I Seek Him by taking a walk around DC. When I feel lost I seek His beauty in the sky, the Georgetown waterfront, or the National Mall, and when I need a boost I seek Him in conversation with those he has chosen as my family and friends. At the end of the day, I Seek Him no matter what and have faith that the beauty and love I find in His world and people will take me exactly where I need to be.
